It was a nice warm day in sunny LA. Well, Pomona to be exact. I was headed south on Palomares on my way to an event and I looked to the left passing Pasadena Street, then took another quick glance and saw the unimaginable. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was like seeing something that one couldn’t fathom. I saw real life street vendors, husband and wife team, who had been preparing fresh fruit. Usually this would be normal to many people, hell to the majority of us who live in southern California. What I found interesting is the couple had set up their refreshing stand in Lincoln Park. Interesting because street vendors are usually only seen selling their goods in south or south east Pomona, but rarely on the north side and definitely not in Lincoln Park. Most recently the neighboring city of Claremont just legalized street vending this past week allowing for street vendors to sell their goods with a permit. I was amazed by this news because Claremont didn’t allow street vending at all. I guess they are attempting to lose the “SQUARE” in Squaremont. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for street vending.
